Other builders pushed for the easy route of taking out interior walls and removing existing features, careless about striping or making the house awkward to live in, instead of expanding square footage in a sensible and gracious way: basically creating a deficit before adding any value, then quoting much higher prices when I insisted on actually extending the house.
